Osteoglossum bicirrhosum

Physical features: Unique almost rectangular body that is white-silver in color. Upturned mouth has two barbels protruding from the bottom lip. Arowana can reach nine feet in length.

Habitat: Top of the water column in the Amazon River Basin.

Diet: Feeds on insects, fish, frogs and have been known to capture birds flying above the water by leaping or spitting.

Fun facts: Males incubate eggs in their mouth until young fry emerge.
