Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Physical features:  Bright yellow beak, feet and eyes, brown feathers on body, white on tail and head.  Short, grasping toes and long sharp talons.  Wind span can reach over seven feet.

Habitat:  Anywhere in North America with tall trees near open water.

Diet: Fish, small mammals, birds

Fun facts:  Benjamin Franklin objected to the Bald Eagle as our national symbol, saying they were a bird of bad moral character (stealing food) and recommended the turkey instead.
