Physical features: Pan or round shaped fish with dark brown speckles on a light yellow-olive background. Upper jaw extends under their red eyes. Two part dorsal fin.

Habitat: Clear, gravel bottomed rivers and the shallow rocky areas in lakes.

Diet: Fish, insect larvae, aquatic invertebrates

Fun facts: A popular game fish, small mouth bass are a member of the sunfish family that can get to be quite large. Male small mouth bass guard their nest and protect the young from hungry neighbors.
