Goldeneye

Bucephala clangula

Physical features:  Medium sized diving duck with a chunky body and large head, golden eyes.  Males have black and white plumage with black head and white spot on head, females are brown and white with a brown head.

Habitat:  Lakes and rivers bordered by forest.

Diet: Aquatic invertebrates, small fish, vegetation

Fun facts: Goldeneyes are one of the last ducks to migrate south in the fall.  Females often lay their eggs in the nest of another female.
